In recognition of the escalating crisis in Sudan, Inter Pares and Sudanese Women Rights Action (SUWRA) are coordinating a new working group on Sudan for Canadian civil society, to act as a forum for solidarity, exchange and action. The Canadian Civil Society Working Group on Sudan is open to participants from across all sectors of civil society, including non-governmental organizations, Sudanese diaspora groups, students, and activists.

The group meets monthly. 

The working group is housed within the Women, Peace and Security Network – Canada.

Background to the civil society working group on Sudan

The escalating crisis in Sudan has caused mass displacement of the Sudanese population, resulting in the world's largest humanitarian catastrophe by numbers and an impending famine that could be the worst the world has seen in 40 years. The International Criminal Court has opened an urgent investigation into crimes against humanity in Darfur. 

The war continues to have profound impacts on Sudanese women and girls, in terms of displacement, conflict-related sexual violence, malnutrition and famine. Canadian civil society needs to come together with a stronger voice to call on the Canadian government to uphold its commitments as they relate to Sudan.

About SUWRA and Inter Pares
