Inter Pares Staff
The staff of Inter Pares comes from many different walks of life but share in common the principles and philosophy underlying the organization. Staff members all have experience in social justice work, in Canada and internationally.
David Bruer, Program Coordinator
David previously managed the Colombia program and now supports the work of Inter Pares in Asia. He has experience in Central America working with Guatemalan refugees and in rural development.
Eric Chaurette
Eric holds a master's degree in environmental studies and has worked for NGOs in community-based conservation in rural regions of Canada and in Latin America. Eric supports the work of the Inter Pares Africa team.
Karen Cocq
Karen is part of the Inter Pares Latin America team with specific responsibility for Central America and Mexico. She has worked, traveled and lived in many parts of Latin America, and has devoted many years to social justice activism and political organizing abroad and in Canada.
Kathryn Dingle
Kathryn has a master’s degree in international development. She has worked in the NGO sector in Canada and abroad to promote youth leadership, health education and public engagement. At Inter Pares, she supports the fundraising and donor relations team.
Elaine Edwards
Elaine holds a CMA designation and is the bookkeeper for Inter Pares. Elaine has lived and worked in Barbados, England and Canada.
Nadia Faucher
Nadia supports the work of Inter Pares in Latin America and more particularly in Colombia and Peru. She has worked and lived in Latin America and sub-Saharan Africa. She is also supporting the work of Ottawa-based women's centers offering services to women subjected to sexual violence.
Peter Gillespie
Peter Gillespie has lived and worked in southern Africa and has considerable experience in rural development programs in Asia. Peter has been very involved with refugees and displaced people from Burma.
Rachel Gouin
Rachel holds a PhD in education for her research on social movement learning. She is part of Inter Pares' Africa team.
Sophie Hargest
Sophie has worked in an advocacy and fundraising role with a number of organizations in Canada which support alternative housing choices. She has also worked as a director and producer of short dramatic and documentary films. Sophie supports the work of the Inter Pares fundraising team.
Erum Hasan (on leave)
Erum holds a master's degree in political science and has wide-ranging experience in international environmental policy work. Erum primarily supports the Inter Pares fundraising team.
Samantha McGavin, Communications Director (on leave)
Samantha coordinates Inter Pares' communications and online fundraising. She has also spent many years promoting egalitarian and inclusive communities, with a particular focus on poor people's autonomy, rights and access to resources.
Rita Morbia, Executive Director
Rita has lived in southern Africa and has a background in environmental activism. In addition to being Executive Director, her program responsibilities are in Africa.
Marie José Morrissette
Marie José Morrissette supports Inter Pares' donor relations and fundraising program as well as its general administration. Prior to joining Inter Pares, she held similar positions in other Canadian international cooperation organizations.
Karen Seabrooke (on leave)
Karen has focused on building mutually supportive relationships among women's groups in Canada and internationally around issues of poverty, women's health and political participation. Karen's work focuses on creating opportunities for women to collectively identify their own problems and solutions and on strengthening women's voices and political platforms.
Jean Symes, Communications Director
After several years in Inter Pares' Latin America program, Jean now coordinates Inter Pares' communications and online fundraising, and is responsible for policy development in extractive industries and international development. Jean's past experience includes human rights promotion and monitoring, social policy development, and finance.
Sheila Whyte
Sheila Whyte manages and coordinates Inter Pares' office and administrative functions. Prior to Inter Pares she worked in a number of educational institutions.
Rebecca Wolsak
Rebecca supports the work of Inter Pares in Asia, in particular in relation to Burma. She spent five years living and working on Burma's borders and returned to Canada to work with Inter Pares.
Anne-Marie Zilliacus, Finance Director
Anne-Marie Zilliacus manages Inter Pares' finances. She has a background in journalism as well as accounting and has lived and worked in England and Australia. She is the former editor of "The Canadian Friend," a Canadian Quaker publication.
Inter Pares Board of Directors
Board members are selected on the basis of their history and credibility in social justice activities and sectors in Canada. The role of the board is to support and provide overall governance to the organization. Board members are elected annually at the Inter Pares Annual General Meeting in Ottawa.
Suzie Boulanger is the coordinator of the Groupe de recherche sur les activités minières en Afrique at the Université du Québec à Montréal.
Verda Cook has been a researcher and campaigner on social and economic justice issues since 1994.
Amanda Dale is a trusted consultant to the non-profit and women's rights sector, currently studying for her Masters in International Human Rights Law at Oxford University.
Agathe Gaulin is an adult educator and a consultant in community and organizational development from Comox, B.C.
Nathan Gilbert is the Executive Director of the Laidlaw Foundation in Toronto.
Mireille Landry is program coordinator at the Institute in Management and Community Development, University Concordia, Montreal.
Amarkai Laryea is a labour activist and lawyer working with the union Public Service Alliance of Canada, Ottawa.
Tamara Levine, Chair is an adult educator and labour activist in Ottawa.
James Loney is a peace activist and writer living in Toronto.
Shree Mulay is a women's health activist and professor at Memorial University, Newfoundland.
Roxana Ng is a sociologist at the University of Toronto.
Jeannie Samuel is a researcher in Toronto working on public health and human rights issues.
Delyse Sylvester is a fundraising consultant living in Nelson, B.C.
Sari Tudiver is a researcher and policy analyst on women's health issues, Ottawa.
Bill Van Iterson, Treasurer is an advisor on economic development and management issues.
