This 30th Anniversary Special Report on the Web
Dear Friends,
This year marks the 30th anniversary of the founding of Inter Pares. In honour of our supporters and the social justice organizations with whom we have worked over the years, we have produced a special 30th Anniversary Report instead of our traditional Annual Report. The title essay of the report is "Imagination and Change: Beyond the Politics of the Possible." It has been our privilege to work with some of the most outstanding social justice organizations in the world, led by people who have dared to challenge the limits of the possible and promote lasting change in their communities and societies. The report provides short descriptions of some of these counterpart organizations and their work. The report also profiles some of the remarkable Canadians who make Inter Pares' work possible through their financial support.
We have included in this report our 2004 audited financial statements in order to maintain our accountability to people like you who have generously supported our work during the year.
As we celebrate our 30th anniversary, we gratefully acknowledge the support of many Canadians across the country who have helped Inter Pares challenge the limits of the possible and to work with others for a better future. We deeply appreciate your support and we hope that we will continue to earn your trust in the years ahead.
Sincerely,
Molly Kane
Executive Director
Imagination and Change: Beyond the Politics of the Possible
Increasing numbers of people in Canada and around the world believe that prevailing political and economic systems work to the disadvantage of the majority on the globe, and threaten the planet itself. The biosphere and human life are at risk, and the conviction that this must change is widespread, and growing. But to achieve the fundamental shift that is required on a global level to recover the planet, and our humanity, requires more than will. It requires a change of mind and ways of being, led by values of health, creativity and love for life, guided by an ethics of international reciprocity, care and community. . . .

What Inter Pares Does
In 1975, a group of young Canadian activists gathered in Ottawa to create an organization that would join in common cause with activists in Canada and the South - as equals, among equals-to combat the causes and effects of poverty worldwide, and to use the lessons of this action in Canada in public education and policy advocacy. Their dream was to help change the world - to make it a just and healthy place for every person alive and for generations to come. . . .

30 Years of Working for Justice
Over the past 30 years, Inter Pares has had the privilege of working with and accompanying some of the most inspiring social justice activists in the world. In 2005, not only do we honour our friends and colleagues who share this history, but look forward to continued international activism for justice and peace. . . .

Solidarity and Common Cause
Just as Inter Pares develops long-term relationships of common cause with people and organizations around the world, we seek to nurture the same quality of relationships with our supporters here in Canada. Rather than spend time and resources on large fundraising campaigns, we have chosen to develop and build a solid core of committed supporters over the years. Inter Pares is fortunate to receive support from 10,000 donors in every province and territory across the country as well as from foundations, clubs, union locals and solidarity funds, religious institutions, and small businesses across Canada. Here are a few examples of our supporters.
- Nicaraguan Children's Fund
- Trinity Jubilee Foundation
- Margaret Fleming McKay
- John and Susan Towndrow: The Quilt of Belonging
- Trinity Jubilee Foundation
