Eladia Ortiz

I told them I was pregnant, but they kept on hitting me... When I got out into the patio I saw some doves and I dreamt that they carried me away on their wings... but the days and the years passed...

A street merchant in the Callao market, Eladia Ortiz was detained at the age of 19, after her husband was charged. Because of the beating she suffered at the hands of the anti-terrorist squads, she miscarried. Eladia Ortiz was twice condemned to 20 years in prison, and finally pardoned after serving 6 years in jail.
