Fundraiser
If you believe that:
- social change and justice are possible
- feminist principles and process can help change the world
- raising money can be an act of social solidarity
- how money is raised is just as important as what it is raised for...
...you may be interested in applying for the position of fundraiser at Inter Pares, a Canadian organization that works to promote international social justice. In Canada and overseas we build relationships with people and organizations who share an analysis that poverty and underdevelopment are caused by structural inequalities between nations and within nations, and who are working to promote peace and social and economic justice in their communities and countries.
Inter Pares raises money for our own work and the action of our counterparts. Over the years, we have built a solid core of nearly 10,000 committed supporters. Our approach to fundraising is based on the understanding that raising money is an ethical and political act of solidarity, and a way to build our base of political support. Fundraising is therefore not separate from Inter Pares' work, but is an integral part of our social action.
Position
Inter Pares is hiring a full-time fundraiser to work with the fundraising team. You will co-manage a broad fundraising program that includes strategies such as direct mail, acquisition, donor outreach, foundations, online fundraising, and major and planned giving. You will also work with the entire staff to develop and implement new ways to raise money. As Inter Pares uses a cooperative, non-hierarchical management structure, you will also play an equal role in the management of the organization, including its financial and administrative well-being and its political and strategic direction.
Demonstrated qualifications
- commitment to social justice and feminist principles
- experience in fundraising; experience in communications and/or community organizing is an asset
- excellent English and strong French communication skills, written and oral
- commitment to collective work, ability to work in a team and without direct supervision
- financial management, administrative, and organizational skills
- competence in a variety of computer programs, including word processing, database and spreadsheets; knowledge of Raiser's Edge for Windows is an asset
- analytical abilities and capacity to think and work strategically
- ability to work long hours during peak periods; availability to travel (primarily within Canada)
- legal employment status in Canada required
Salary and benefits
Inter Pares staff form a cooperative management team of women and men working on the principle of parity. All members of staff receive the same annual salary of $49,921 with a generous benefits package that includes extended health coverage, a retirement contribution, and four weeks of annual leave.
