Inter Pares announces its new Executive Director

Rita Morbia

Ottawa – It is with pleasure that Inter Pares’ Board of Directors announces the appointment of Rita Morbia as our new Executive Director, effective March 1st, 2009.

Rita joined Inter Pares in 2001 as a program manager for Asia. She holds a bachelor’s degree from McGill University in biology with a minor in environmental studies, and a master’s degree in biological sciences (ecology) from the University of Windsor. Before coming to Inter Pares, she worked with the Sierra Club of Canada on biodiversity and forestry issues, and taught in Swaziland for two years with World University Service of Canada (WUSC). Rita has also been involved in women's rights and environmental and social justice issues. At Inter Pares, Rita’s responsibilities have focused on managing Inter Pares’ Burma program and liaising with the Canadian International Development Agency’s (CIDA) Voluntary Sector Program. Rita’s talents and leadership are appreciated by her colleagues, who are looking forward to working with her in her new capacity.

Inter Pares is also bidding a fond adieu to our current Executive Director, Molly Kane. Molly will be leaving the organization after fifteen years, including twelve years as Executive Director, as she explores new ways to contribute to the movement for social justice.

We invite those who have known and worked with Molly over the years to join us in celebrating her many contributions to Inter Pares at a reception on Thursday, February 26th, from 4 - 7 p.m. at Parliament Pub, 101 Sparks St. (RSVPs appreciated).

Inter Pares was founded in 1975 with the purpose of promoting peace and justice in Canada and internationally. By collaborating with and supporting struggles for justice around the world, we help strengthen the capacity of people and communities, especially the most marginalized, to influence the social, economic, and political structures that affect their lives.

For further information or to RSVP for the reception, please contact Samantha McGavin at (613) 563-4801.
