Public events: Trade Justice Tour
In honour of our 30th anniversary, Inter Pares is holding public events across the country. All events are free. Please bring your family and friends and join us if you will be in the following cities for our fall Ontario events:
On the Road to Hong Kong: International Citizen Action and Trade Justice
Inter Pares presents Tetteh Hormeku, trade activist with Ghana's
Third World Network Africa (TWNA), a leading voice on issues related to trade and investment, environment and gender equality. As the next World Trade Organization (WTO) ministerial in Hong Kong approaches, come discuss the pressing issues on the table for African countries, Canada's part in international trade negotiations, and the vital role played by Northern and Southern civil society organizations in promoting trade justice.

The evening will include a special introduction by Anton Kuerti, Inter Pares spokesperson, concert pianist and peace activist, who will address the importance of citizen engagement and internationalism.

Biographies
Tetteh Hormeku is Head of Programmes, and lead on international trade and economic policy issues, at the
Africa Secretariat of Third World Network. He holds an LLM in international economic law, with specialization in international trade and investment issues. Tetteh Hormeku has worked on issues relating to trade and the WTO since 1996.
Created in 1994, TWN-Africa is an autonomous affiliate of Third World Network, a grouping of Southern organizations and individuals working on North-South international development issues. TWN-Africa collaborates with community-based organizations, trade unions, academics and policy-makers throughout the African continent to advocate for economic and social justice. Through its work in policy research and advocacy, training, and public communications, TWN-Africa has become a leading voice on issues related to trade and investment, environment and gender equality. TWN-Africa co-ordinates the Africa Trade Network, an Africa-wide coalition of trade-policy organizations.
Pianist Anton Kuerti was born in Austria, grew up in the U.S., and has lived in Canada for the last 35 years. His distinguished performing career has included tours to nearly forty countries. He has performed with most major North American orchestras and conductors with a vast repertoire including some 50 concertos, one of which he composed himself. His highly praised recordings include all of Beethoven's and Schubert's Sonatas, and all the concerti by Beethoven, Brahms, Mendelssohn and Schumann.
A recipient of the Order of Canada and many honourary doctorates, he has involved himself in many social and political causes, including running for Parliament in 1988.
